That Chicken Place: fueling Everett with comfort food and humor

Bring your light-hearted mood and sense of humor along with you to That Chicken Place and fill your stomach with some delicious fried chicken or any of the other assortment of items the menu hosts. There’s a little something for everybody!

The name may seem a little peculiar, but owner Brandy Wahlstrom and her sister’s humor is to thank for it.

“Everybody has a place: ‘let’s go to that burger place; let’s go to that sushi place...’ It’s kind of a smart aleck move,” said Wahlstrom. “There’s a need just to be light-hearted and not serious because there’s way too much of that in the world...it just needs to be fun.”

Throughout the menu, you’ll find dishes that tip their hat to family members who sprinkled food inspiration throughout Wahlstrom’s life. Every recipe has its story and they all hold a special meaning, tying in the heart and soul that drives That Chicken Place.

“A lot of this stuff I actually have been making at home forever,” said Wahlstrom. “This is what I know; my family loves it, my friends love it.”

Wahlstrom has been cooking for nearly the entirety of her life. Her journey in the restaurant field began when she was just 14, working as a carhop at Mr. Bill’s. Since that time, she has worked all positions, doing whatever needed to be done. No matter the task, she understood that it was all part of the end result.

When That Chicken Place opened on Jan. 2, 2019, Everett’s enthusiastic crowd of foodies took That Chicken Place by storm. Wahlstrom recalls working 18 to 20-hour days and could not keep enough chicken in to feed the hungry guests for the first few days.

“We were just here and turned the open sign on...it was nuts, just nuts,” said Wahlstrom. “We learned a lot that day and the following ones.”

IMG_9555Out of that first week, Wahlstrom and her team pulled inspiration and founded change within That Chicken Place, choosing to look back on stories of the first week and laugh a lot. Open for nearly a year now, Wahlstrom and her team continue to meet and reflect, improving each day that the doors are open and they still continue to laugh a lot.

That Chicken Place functions like a family, where every member of Wahlstrom’s team agrees to pitch in, working hard to make every customer happy. The team understands that they all must work together. And, like a family, no one goes home until all the work has been done.

For those who like a little kick to their food, Wahlstrom says their signature Nashville Butter is must-try. Check out That Chicken Place at 1907 Hewitt Ave., Ste. A, Everett, WA 98201 for the perfect bite before a Silvertips game, or anytime.
